Nepal

Nepal

Nepal with a population of 30 million, is about the size and shape of Tennessee. It is perched on the southern slopes of the Himalayan Mountains. Nepal is as ethnically diverse as its terrain of fertile plains, broad valleys, and the highest mountain peaks in the world.

The Nepalese are descendants of three major migrations from India, Tibet, and central Asia. It is predominantly Hindu, with 80% of the population, following this oldest of religions. Roughly 10% are Buddhists and 4% Moslem. Two ethnic groups that you might have heard of are the Gurkhas, and Sherpas. The Gurkhas are some of the most famous soldiers in the world. The Sherpas are the high altitude people who support all the mountain climbing expeditions in Nepal. Truly a remarkable and exciting country, unlike any other which students will always remember.
